Did Ukrainian strikes on Russian datacentres reduce online disinformation?

While some viral online graphs suggest less bot activity, Zelenskyy’s claims of improved social media discourse do not entirely pass muster Over the weekend, Ukraine carried out at least three airstrikes on datacentres belonging to the Russian search engine company Yandex. Reports suggest at least two of these datacentres took significant damage, with Telegram footage appearing to show one on fire. Yandex acknowledged the strikes, and Russian media reported that several websites appeared affected by the downed datacentres. On Monday, Volodymyr Zelenskyy suggested the strikes had dampened Russia’s massive disinformation operation, saying : “It suddenly became a little easier to breathe on many social platforms. There was less hate, less division and fewer provocations.” Continue reading...

DLSS 5 gets toned down for its Hogwarts Legacy debut next month

When Nvidia originally showed off DLSS 5 earlier this year, the technology immediately got branded as gen AI for video games. To gamers, Nvidia had lost the plot. Allies did not warn Kyiv of Russian ballistic missile strikes, says Zelenskyy

Ukrainian president’s comments on ‘particularly vile’ strikes come after US threatened to halt intelligence sharing Ukraine received no early warning from its partners about a second night of Russian ballistic missile strikes on civilian infrastructure in Kyiv, including a critical power plant struck after dark, Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Tuesday. The Ukrainian president had earlier described an attack involving five missiles on Monday as “particularly vile”. He emphasised that receiving intelligence from Ukraine’s western allies “helps saves lives, and this is one of the most critical issues”. Continue reading...

Are Harnesses Worth the Cost?

Naresh Jain compares coding agents building the same API service with and without a behavioral harness. A frontier model, GPT-6 Sol, passed every external evaluation either way. But a cost-optimized model, GPT-6 Luna, succeeded in only 3 of 10 unharnessed runs and all 10 with the harness. While adding the harness increased token usage and runtime for Luna, the harnessed Luna runs achieved the same 10-for-10 reliability as GPT-6 Sol while costing 33% less per run ($0.273 vs $0.406). This experiment suggests a behavioral harness might be a practical way to get dependable results from smaller, cost-optimized models. more…

Quoting Geoffrey Huntley

If the agent isn't using my diagnostics library, I could introspect and update AGENTS.md, but there's still a delta, and it'll drift. Instead, I write a pre-commit hook that checks the git diff for direct calls to observability modules that bypass my diagnostics module. Boom: fail the commit, inject a prompt telling the agent to use the diagnostics library. All of a sudden it's ten out of ten. — Geoffrey Huntley , nobody should type code by hand anymore. here's what's left.
